Elvis & Larry Geller

Story shared by Larry Geller.

One night, when Elvis was at the end of a concert in South Bend Indiana, he spontaneously removed a diamond ring from his finger and threw it to the wildly applauding audience.

I was on stage, kneeling next to him acting as security.

For a moment, everything seemed to move in slow motion, as the ring arced through the air, landing unseen in the crowd.

Elvis didn't wait to see who was lucky enough to get the prized gift, he quickly turned around the moment he threw the ring, and walked off the stage.

When we got back to his hotel room, someone blurted out, "I can't believe that you did it!

That ring, worth 30 thousand dollars, was one of your favorites."

Elvis was still glowing from what he had done.

"Well, I tell you, I didn't plan it, that's for sure. That's what I felt at the time.

Something inside me told me that someone was in trouble out there, that they needed the ring much more than I did.

Hey , I can buy all the rings I want. But when that voice inside me tells me what to do, I follow it, it's that simple."

Another story showing how generous, kind and humble a man Elvis was regardless of his wealth at times.
