February 2, 1959

February 2, 1959: Elvis was in Germany serving the United States Army. On this date Elvis moved from the Hotel Grunewald to a rented house located at Goethestraße 14 in Bad Nauheim, Germany for the rest of his military service. Elvis’ father Vernon, Minnie Mae Elvis’ grandmother, Elvis’ Secretary Elisabeth Stefaniak and Elvis’ entourage continued to live with Elvis.

Frau Pieper, the landlady, charged them the enormous rent of $800 a month. However she still maintained a room in the house. Partly to serve as a housekeeper, and partly to keep an eye on her new guests. Elvis’ grandmother Minnie Mae and Frau Pieper soon became fast friends, though they were often at odds, each in their own language.
